WineRelease.com's September 15, 2013 Monthly Newsletter.

Greetings from WineRelease.com, now 1,963 winery listings strong.

Attention Wineries: We will be emailing you a link to update your 2013 and add your 2014 wine releases next week.

Late August / early September finds many of us preparing for another back to school season. This was the first for our family, as our daughter started her play group at the Italian immersion preschool, here in San Francisco:

Also during this past month, we took advantage of the great weather and proximity to amazing scenery, that were fortunate to have here in Northern California. I took this picture while golfing in Tahoe.

In mid-August, we had our annual Boys weekend, down at my buddy Randalls house in Morro Bay. I think that trip can be summed up with: A little golf, some cigars, bocce ball, good food, and great wine. One afternoon, we hit Tognazzinis, a dockside seafood shop, which lists the name of the boat that delivered the fish that day, on a wipe board, when you first walk in. A little live music and some beers washed down the oysters and smoked salmon neck:

A few weeks ago, we didnt let the fires in Yosemite deter us from a trip to Lake Tahoe. My brother has a cabin near Myers, CA, which was a perfect spot for a relaxing weekend with the family, and a great chance to spend a quiet late afternoon watching the squirrels eat the peanuts off the railing of the deck, and eating some fine cheeses, and playing dominoes.

The boys got up early on Sunday morning to play nine holes. Here is a shot of my brother, our nieces husband and my brother-in-law:

My mom made her famous spaghetti and meatballs for a pre-birthday dinner for me, always a family favorite, which went great with the 2008 Parry Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, a perfect occasion to open that bottle. We were able to spend an afternoon at the beach, as well, and had picture perfect weather.

Heres my sister Robyn and my niece (and Mia's godmother) Gaeby, at the Lake:

The following weekend found us with three other couples at Stinson Beach. My buddys neighbor has a great old house, about 2 blocks from the beach, fully equipped with a big kitchen and great views of the ocean, off the porch.

The story at Stinson is that each couple is responsible for a dinner and a breakfast. We took the first night and did our sea bass, steamed in banana leaves with a heavy coating of grated ginger, soy sauce and sesame oil, accompanied by cauliflower (baked with peppers, garlic, panko and capers) and roasted brussel sprouts. We started with some steamed shrimpers and a charcuterie plate. The 2007 Selene Napa Valley Chesler Red Wine was a great pairing with the light sea bass and really brought out the ginger flavor.

One of the favorite meals was cooked by our friends, Dave & Joyce Rickenbacker (of K&L Wines and Henry Wine Groups, respectively). They made their million dollar chicken, served in personal cast iron skillets, tomatoes from the garden with burrata and heavily drizzled olive oil and balsamic, and roasted vegetables:

One of the best parts of the Stinson trip is the afternoon spent in Hog Island, eating oysters, cooking paella, and drinking some delicious wines. In fact, the theme of that trip is really great friends, delicious foods and the opportunity to bring out that bottle (or two) that youve been saving for the right audience. One of the top bottles of the trip was the 2009 School House Vineyard Napa Valley Mescolanza Zinfandel Blend.

The day after the return from Stinson was my birthday. My niece came into the City to watch the baby, so my wife and I snuck out for a delicious dinner at Boboquivaris Steak house; a legend in the City, just down the hill from us on Lombard Street. We started with a little bubbly and the Hamachi carpaccio, lobster crostini, and a Caesar salad, then split the bone-in prime rib; one of my favorite cuts of meat. We brought a bottle of 2008 Lewelling Wight Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, which was a fantastic pairing with the steak and the icing on the cake, if you will, for a nice birthday celebration.

And now, onto the wines...
